Thanks to Pete for posting this. I was happily surprised by the lucid clarity of Edwards' analysis and the unwavering direction of his prognosis for what needs to be done. The fact that this is being discussed in such a major venue as a presidential campaign is in itself a positive sign that there are things that are changing, shifting, revealing. Whatever the reason for this new found determination to start talking about the state of things as they are, and not patronizing a cartoon political fantasy or civic mythology (maybe his wife's current condition and the call to authenticity that such a challenge can entail?), Edwards seems to be aware of an inate sense that the truth and value of life is more important than any fleeting sense of 'respectability' or position of power in the game. Compromising for a more comfortable cabin on the Titanic is in the real term a losing proposition for everyone.
